Installed HID fog lights... Question!

3 Attachment(s)
First of all the Relays are NOT needed for the Fog light install... Although I did have to reverse the way I plugged up the connectors.

But my question is...

Is it safe to have HIDs in the Stock fog light housing? I touched the glass and it was pretty HOTT! I wasn't able to check to see how hot the glass got w/ the stock bulbs, but I feel like these could melt the glass!

Is this normal?

Did you guys upgrade the housing?

(I used 6000k hids also)

HID run cooler than regular bulbs, not sure why yours are "hot"? Stock housing should be good.

I haven't done mine but I'm going with 3000k for fog and dust. I have the conversion kit, just haven't installed it yet. 6000k is not a good choice for fog or dust it's like running high beam in fog, the freq is too high and too bright. 3000k is better.

^^^ Yes! If you are going for visibility and performance over looks, then 3000k is best for the fogs. That is what I have and love them! They do an outstanding job in weather. I have had HIDs in my fogs for years and haven't had a single problem. Also the factory fogs are plastic not glass.

Thanks for the quick advice... Do you have a picture of your jeep at night w/ the 3k bulbs? I'd like to see the color and brightness difference.

Here are the most recent ones I have. I'm running 35W 4300k HIDs in the lows, and 55W 3000k HIDs in the fogs.

I want your headlights :(

But your jeep is well lit!

Thanks bud! That last pic is only with the lows and fogs btw, none of the LEDs were on.

What that doesn't show is how those 3k's cut through the dust and fog ... so your set for "any" enviorment.

NDSU_Bison 06-21-2012 08:04 PM

I'm assuming they are set up so the light beam only goes downward. The factory fog lights are worthless in the fog and the only come in handy for lighting up the ditches to keep an eye out for deer and elk out in the country.

We're talking about replacements for the OEM fog's ... not the OEM fogs.

I just ordered some off eBay, I sent the guy a $30 offer and he accepted it. I got the lows and the fogs for $60 shipped!

They came 2 days later! Very impressed! If you want the sellers name let me know.

If you could that would be great! I like the color of those 6's. I've been mix matching hid brand bulbs to get that right 6000k color and from your pics, i'd thats the color im looking for.

Pretty new to bulbs and stuff.. tried to do an HID conversion in a friend's WK.. went horrible (had to take it to a shop after we took the bumper off and everything)

Are the fogs difficult to install? We never actually got to install the fog lights, and do they require something special to add them in? (Again very new to HID.. I just add sylvania bulbs and call it good lol)
