--HOW TO--add 2008 HID headlights to your 05-07 WK!

05-07 headlight on the left and a 2008 HID headlight on the right--

First you need to remove your grille...2nd remove the 3 screws holding the 05-07 headlight...there are 3 abd they are 10mm. The one on the top is easy...the two underneath are difficult and require patience....especially the one near the grille.

back of the 08 light-

back of 08 light with the HID dust cover removed-

here shows how i trimmed the tabs of the xenondepot bulb to fit in the 08 housing. I added a couple drop of adhesive to hold it in good.

Next I pulled the casing off the d1s bulb that comes with the 08 hid's and used it to cover the 9006 bulb and to help secure it in the 08 housing-

bulb and cover from d1s installed in hid housing

dust cover installed-

lamp installed with no stillen cover-

you will reuse the marker light assembly, turn signal bulb and assembly and the 9005 highbeam bulb and assembly from the 05-07.

So, what did it cost to buy the '08 assembly? You lost me up on using the xenondepot bulbs... did the '08 assembly come with the '08 HID bulbs? It looks like you used the housing from the '08 bulbs but aren't the d1s bulbs HID?

Thanks for posting all of this... I need this upgrade. Also, what are the "stillen covers"?

I paid $640 for the 08 lamps from LKQ. The 08 assembly did come with d1s bulbs and the ballasts. You can see the ballast on the bottom of the lamp. I didnt use the d1s and oem ballast because I wasnt sure what to do. I now know that I can use the d1s bulbs and ballasts. I just need to wire striaght to the ballast using my xenondepot relay harnesses. Then I can take out the xenondepot 9006 bulbs.

The Stillen covers are headlight covers made for the 05-07 WK's by Stillen Motorsports in CA. You can contact Jade at Stillen to purchase them. They are very similar to my ronconcept covers. Here is a pic of the passenger side with a Stillen cover....

Not a problem. I will be using the 08 d1s bulbs and ballasts as soon as a new d1s bulb arrives.(one was broken)

Just finished what I should have done in the first place. I used the 08 stock D1S bulbs and ballasts in my 08 headlight assembly retrofit. Believe it or not...if you buy the 08 assemblies and they come with the bulbs...all you need to make them work in a 05-07 WK....is a HID relay harness!(you can get them for $19.95 fron dxhid.com) I also used liquid tape(awesome stuff), electrical tape, heat shrink sleeves and plastic ties.

I have many pics below...so if you have any questions...please include the pic #. But...this is very, very easy.....and if I can do it...anyone can.

#1-this is the back of the 08 drivers lamp. The power and ground for the ballast is circled in red with the arrow pointing...

#2-tools and supplies needed

#3-d1s bulb plugged in

#4-d1s bulb installed-

#5-on the passenger side lamp...there are 8-10 wires going into the lamp. Just pull the rubber stopper out and trace the wires going to the ballast. On my lamp...they happened to be black(ground) and dark grey(power). the drivers side just has two wires going into the rubber stopper...they are also grey and black.

#6-In these pics....I stripped the wires and connected the relay harness to the lamp. On my harness I had to cut the plug off that went to the HID bulb(9006 kit) and then I wired the green to the power and the black to the ground...which then I connected to the fender grounding location. I used the liquid tape on the open wires and then the heat shrink tape on top of that. I then plugged the relay harness into the 9006 plug from the truck harness and routed the relay harness to the positive on the battery. the drivers side is the same procedure.

#7-The results----
