Hood Won't Stay Up

Perhaps the most annoying part of my 06 Laredo is that the hood won't stay up on its own. There's obviously no bar to hold it up. Is there a way to fix this myself and if so, how hard it is?

i think jeep should have used 2 struts, it seems to be a common problem.

That's what the guy who changed my oil the other day said. They have a rod specifically for cars with this problem.

Self locking vice grips work well too, just lock them on the strut and it wont close on your head.

2 dead struts don't work any better than 1 dead strut. Ask the WJers.

The hood is aluminum, so two struts would be overkill.

I replaced my original strut a couple years back with an aftermarket one and haven't had an issue since. Even then, $16 bucks and 10 minutes of my time every couple of years is no big deal.
