Hill descent assist when you don't have one ;)

Hi guys,

on my last navigation rallye, I did an interesting discovery....

In a portion of the route, we had to drive at 22km/h... so I used the cruise control to make sure I was right on with GPS verification.

to my surprise, I noticed the transmission would shift down to slow the Jeep down and at one point, it even put the brakes on?!??!!?

I might not be a "real" descent assist but it sure does the job.. ok ok you're saying what about 1-4 km/h when going down, I don't know.. I haven't tried it so low yet... I'll do a bit of testing and come back with results.

Phil

yeah that's what I thought too... but i really felt it braking.. was it just ESP kicking in because I was on a gravel road.. not too sure.... I'll have to re-explorer this issue at low speeds...

how low is the cruise control supposed to kick in? on my subaru below 30km/h it turns off...

Hi
All speed controls are set to work above 30mph (50 km/h) speed control can be set between 35mph (52.6 kph ) and 85mph (136.8 kph) menoche are you sure yours work that low? If so lucky you I am very surprised. Country codes I can’t see would make any difference as the PCM doesn’t always store the country code. Think our WH just say none US. Seen all sorts on KJ such as brazil and china and this can’t be changed.

World wide, how many WK's are creeping down hills with the CC on right now? I'll go try after rush hour.

With our '08 CRD Overland, we can set it as low as 14 mph. We have tried this, because the manual said it will work at this low of a speed. All the other engines don't let you engage it until upwards of 35 mph.

Hill descent, why not just shift into 1st and let the engine compression work for you? That is, if you are going that slowly.

ok i tried again with my 07 CRD and couldn't set it lower than 22kmph... under that cc wouldn't kick in at all, so kiss good bye my weird idea.

why not in first? Becase even in first gear in some steep slope, it will over rev.

I still have to try again the 22kmph on a steep sloap to find out why my esp kicked in last time to make sure it was juste because of the gravel....

Sir,

the engine will sound like it is going to overrev but, not really. Try shifting into 4.lo and 1st. No way to overrev the motor.
