For towing and general get-it-on ability you can't beat the 5.7(as far as gas engines are concerned). More tourque with the diesel.

Hi Folks
I had a 96 GC limited 5.3L or 318. I knew the mileage would be bad on my 07 Hemi. I am seeing about 14.6 MPG (Highway and city)- Highway driving only (75+ MPH - this past weekend - 60 mile trip), I saw about 17.2 which was not bad. I have been told that Hemi gets better gas mileage than the 4.7. I have always had a V8 in my vehicles but I almost wish I would have gotten the Diesel (20 - 24 MPG). However I love the power of the Jeep Hemi. It is all a choice we all have to make and the nice part there are many choices. If have a need for POWER – HEMI if not 4.7 will work, good gas mileage Diesel. Just my two cents.
Thanks
Bill

4.7 with factory towing package. 11.5 MPG at best and 11.0 worst. I moved at 70 MPH at 2100 RPM.

I should also add that I got 11.5 with the A.C. on.

I will also add that get brakes for the TJ trailer, and get as light and small as possible. I was towing on FLAT highway. I'm using a 18ft trailer and am saving for a 16" lighter trailer hopefully aluminum. It did struggle going up sometimes, but I have been nothing but impressed with the 4.7 and my commaddy as a whole.

If you are looking to buy new check out the website of the dealership if you can and scan the inventory. I wanted adjustable pedals and a towing package, she wanted blue.
Ours has No chrome, No Hemi, No NAV/DVD. Everything else I got...for thousands less.
