Grand cherokee 4.7 or 5.7?

Hello i am new at this forum... i was looking some japanese SUVs like pathfinder, 4runner, etc.. but then i decided for GC..

In my search i have found a lot of versions.. now i am keen for the third generation (2005-2010).

In my country i can choose between the 5.7 hemi and the improved 4.7 (2008)

so, what would u recommend in terms of MPG, reliability and power?

thanks a lot

If you need MPG scratch off the hemi.

If you do more highway than city driving the 5.7L may actually get you slightly better mileage than the 4.7l.

The parents just traded in their 2008 Pathfinder. It was a nice vehicle but the only things I liked better than my Jeep were size (probably comparable interior to a Commander though) and the V6 that comes standard is much more powerful than our 3.7L's. The Nissan is more expensive and harder to mod, and quite frankly side by side even my Jeep with it's minimal modifications looks more badass than the path.

^^ what he said .. the difference between the 3.7 to the 4.7 to the 5.7 is MINIMAL maybe 3 mpgs off from the 3.7 to the hemi .... your best bet is to get the 5.7 with QDII and no regrets ...

2008 and up 4.7 v8 gets 16-17 avg mpg in mixed driving and 20-21+ highway. Great power for a small v8. A good match to the gc. Hemi is the ultimate In power but will get you 12-13 mpg in town and 20+ highway.

Get a 2010 5.7. All the pwr and not much worse on mpg's than the 4.7. I get 12-13 in town and 21 hwy @ 75 mph.

First, welcome! Second, it depends what you're going to be doing with the GC. Are you going to be towing a lot? Not saying the 4.7 can't tow, because it can, you just may want more engine if towing a lot. Another thing to consider, the 4x4 system. Quadra Trac II vs Quadra Drive II. QTII is great for year-round on/off road driving, but if you're into off-roading, rock crawling you'd be happier with QDII. Just something else to consider when purchasing.

The hemi will tow better. No replacement for displacement.

I would go with the hemi. The 4.7 is a bit of a dog and the mpg is not that different. I would probably get the 6 cyl before the 4.7, though it does not sound like that is an option for you.

2008 4.7 has 300 hp. Not a dog.

To each his own - but for me the 4.7 suits well.

Hemi is nice, so is the crd. They cost more to buy, more to run, and more to fix when they break. My reason to have the 4.7.

yea, my 4.7 moves nice and fast from stop when I get up on her, and there is have the spark plugs....either you care about gas prices, or you don't. I don't even look at them. I have a stock 4.7 with 144,000 miles now and nothing bad has gone awry.
