Got the rip in the leather seat repaired

After a few years of putting up with a rip in the front seat I finally got it fixed. This is a common problem on the WKs. It cost $165 plus tax and was completed in a few hours.

Repaired

How did you fix the leather? I'm in the same boat as you since my driver seat is showing cracks

I found an auto specialty shop that works on leather/vinyl. They matched the leather and replaced both panels (the side and top left).

Too bad it's not leather, that's why they crack like they do. It's cheap vinyl. I'm thinking about finding a shop that will make new covers out of real leather or getting some Katzkin covers.

Wow, and here I thought these seats were indestructible. How many miles did you have on your Jeep when they started cracking/ripping? I'm at 55k with no signs of wear so far. *knock on wood* That price seems reasonable though, and they did a great job. That's definitely not a job I'd want to tackle myself.

It probably started to crack at 40k miles, it's at 85k now. I did lift it 2" around 10k so I'm sure it put a little more wear on that side getting in and out.

I have this as well on my 06 XK. Noticed it around 40k. I bought the Jeep at 29k. I think I'm gonna let mine wear a little more as well, although that price isn't too bad for the two panels. Mine is only cracked on the lower portion of the seat.

Mine needs repaired too. It's getting bad. Mine was ripped when I bought it 5 years ago at 24k miles. I'm now at 87k miles.

Imo that's a great price. I wish it would be that cheap around here. If you have a well maintained and conditioned WK it seems silly to me to put up with a ripped up seat cushion.

The seat turned out great btw.

rather a question of how heavy is the driver, then how many miles have you got on the clock

I'm sure the heavier the driver the more wear on the seat, but I'm 150lbs and the bottom portion of my seat is tearing after 65k miles.

when shopping for a WK CRD, every single WK either had the seat torn or was well on its way.
