Got a Question on front Bilstein 5100s vs 4600s

I have a pair of front 5100s and I measured how much more distance there is between the lower flange that fits into the clevis and the snap ring that supports the spring mount at the lowest setting. Bilstein says these lift it 3/4" on the lowest setting. It looks like the 5100 is 6/16ths or 3/8ths longer than the 5100 in this respect. If so, then how do they provide 3/4" of lift on the lowest setting vs the 4600?

Interesting question. I have 5100's on my XK and can confirm that their claims are true as far as lift height. I know the 5100 is a longer shock than the 4600 as well. Not sure I have any sort of answer for you though.

Looks like you mean 4600 here I think. Should reduce some confusion.

The length difference between the ring and flange isn't proportional to the lift gained. If you look at them, the max position isn't 2", but does give 2" of lift.

It functions on a lever. The shock mounts part-way between the hinge and the wheel...simple geometry.

I'm assuming is the same reason why strut spacers give double the lift of their size. Like people stack a 1/4 inch strut spacer and get a 1/2 inch of lift. I never really thought about why though.

the 4600s and the 5100s have the same valving- I think the initial boost from the 4600s is more apparent on these WKs because theyre replacing shocks on a worn to hell suspension.
