glorious swirl motor

so i broke down 2 weeks ago and ordered my wheels and tires(18 inch rockstar xd's with 265/70/18 yoko geolander ats). decided i had finally needed to spend the money i had saved. installed my RC lift, 3k hid fogs, 6k lows, lift and wheels.

2 days later swirl motor died going up the road and now its sitting getting it replaced. FML! thats my luck.

has anyone heard anything lately about EGR delete and DPF delete? would like to get these done.

-if you dont agree with a DPF delete, there is no need to post your opinion here. thats not the info im looking for.

Thanks, Justin

Man that sucks...I think that is the only thing with the CRD that is just a stupid issue for us to be dealing with Chrysler made a ****ty product and they should be fixing this issue.

Please let us know what kind of money this cost...I wanna make sure I have that amount in a savings account.

Cmmdrdan you do not need to worry about the swirl motor...it is a CRD issue.

Just another example of the importance of keeping the oily blowby vapor out of the intake & keeping it from mixing with the sooty EGR gases. I'm so thankful I found this forum before I purchased my CRD. I installed a Racor CCV4500 at 1,500 miles and switched to the Elephant Hose Mod at 7k miles. Added the InMotion tune at 7k also. This forum is invaluable for Jeep owners, especially us CRD'ers...

The InMotion Tune reduces EGR function but they can't disclose to what degree. I'm hoping that with my version of the EHM coupled with the reduced EGR function of the IM tune, I'll never face this issue. Only time and miles will tell...

Is there anyway to avoid the swirl motor deal without inmotion tune or things like that? seriously, i've been around diesel's and I've never heard of this issue...what is the deal? is it something that black intake seal fixes? i have an 07 CRD with 38,000miles on it and I'd like to get this kind of issue done before I make my cross country run next month.

Larz this is a total hit and miss. It was a poor design from Chrsyler in regards to the original orange seal. The black seal makes the leak go away. Check out the post from CRDdawg on some things that can be done. But even with those things done there is still a chance. I would not hesitate to drive your CRD cross the country.

If you have not changed to the black seal you need to go buy one or order one pronto. That needs to be installed before you do anything else.

Mine is the 08.5 also. Can the seal colour be determined without pulling anything apart?

Just take the plastic engine cover off (2 bolts) and look at the seal between the air intake tube and the turbo. If it is orange you will see it real quick.

Thanks. Sorry I don't mean to hijack this thread/topic.

Is this a TSB? Will dealer replace for free?

No, no TSB.

Personally I think the black seal should prevent this issue considering that all the other vehicles using this engine seem to be fine. Preventing the blow-by would be an added bonus but I would advise against it if you live in really cold climates (i.e Canada).
