Getting Auto Headlights... Easy or crazy?

So I just went from a 2003 wj Laredo with auto headlights to a 2006 wk Laredo without auto headlights. I am so used to having auto headlights that I still haven't adapted to having to turn them on and off.

I know that the wjs were wired to be plug and play (I added heated seats to my old one, plugs were behind lower power outlets) so I'm wondering if this is something I could do on my wk?

I found the light switch/stalk and also the sensor online, would I be lucky enough to get away with just switching out the parts and maybe getting it flashed at the dealership?

I've searched some other posts but they seemed to lead me to a dead end, so any help would be much appreciated

Edit: I also haven't looked for the harness connect for the sensor (read someone say it was there under the dash trim, saw someone else say there was nothing there) Can anyone clarify? Thanks

You do need to get it enabled at the stealership but the rest I believe is plug & play.

Bought the multifunction stalk & sensor for mine, activated in starscan but didn't work. After looking through the parts list, there's something like 40 different dash harnesses available. Many have said it worked but definitely not always the case

Like I said, different people, different results. Only way to say 100% is to either buy the parts & try it for the sake of $100 or find out what harness you have from your chassis number then compare this with the service manual to see if you have all the correct wires for them

I was looking to do this on my '06. With the research I did (and some of what you already know) I found that some Jeeps have the wiring harness in the dash. If you're lucky enough to have that, you'd simply have to buy the sensor, swap out the stalk and have the feature enabled at a dealer. If you don't have the harness it sounds like you'd have to wire the sensor in to the harness yourself. You'd need to pin the sensor into one of the harnesses in the driver side kick panel, then get the stalk, then have the feature enabled.

That's all in theory, however. I went as far a buying the sensor then got distracted with many other projects and haven't come back to it yet. If you end up doing this, let us all know how it turns out. I'd love to add auto headlights to my ride and knowing it can be pulled off I'd be more inclined to do it.

Good luck!
