Hi guys. Recently I've noticed a burnt diesel smell in the cab of my 08 gc crd. It only smells at a stop with the fan running inside. So I look under the cover in the engine bay and found this black tar on one of my injectors. It's giving off the same smell as in the cab!image-2231073399.jpg image-2166156663.jpg image-1526211107.jpg Has anybody had this problem? Or point me in the right direction as to a fix? Thx in advance!

Just went out and fired it up without cover and the foam noise canceler off; and I found that there is combustion chamber fumes escaping for were the injector enters the block! which would explain the burnt diesel smell I'm experiencing! Is this just a simple blown o ring or do I need to change the whole injector? Thx

There's a copper gasket under the injector called an injector seal, and it is fairly easy to replace.

Those copper gaskets are one time use also, so even if you're planning on pulling it to look around you need a new one. My injectors had no secondary seals (just grease), so assuming yours is like mine just replace the copper seal and call it done!

Ok thx. Are any special tools needed or is it as easy as undoing the bolt replacing the copper gasket and then bolt it back up again?

The screw is also a one time use part .. so you will need to replace the o-ring and the screw. Then torque plus a 180 twist.

Will I need a injector puller to remove the injector; there is barely any " Black Death tar" around it. Or can it be done without?
