Hey everyone.
I finally had a chance to take my 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland CRD out for a little off-road fun. I took it out completely stock. I removed the front air dam to help with the approach angle. I have stock suspension and a set of Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice WRT tires on 18" steel rims that I had already put on for the winter. My Jeep has the Quadra-Drive II system which proved to be incredible. Even the winter tires did better than I expected!
My friend took his '08 WK Limited with the Quadra-Trac II system, a 2" Old Man Emu lift kit, 2" wheel spacers and a set of BF Goodrich Mud Terrain T/A tires.
During the couple of hours of off-roading I only got stuck once. You can see in the video where the tires just weren't up to the task of climbing a sandy hill. Other than that, my Jeep had no problem making it through several mud holes that we were sure I would get stuck it. That QDII system did its job well.
Overall I'm extremely impressed with the off-road capability of a bone-stock WK with the QDII system.
Next year I plan on picking up a set of 17" rims and larger all-terrain tires for off-road adventures. I'd prefer the BFG All-Terrain T/A KO2's. A lift is a possibility but this is my daily driver so fuel economy is still a factors.
I took the video using my dash-cam. Not the best quality and it captures video in 10 minutes clips. I didn't bother to take out my GoPro. At the beginning of the clip my friend had just gone through a surprisingly deep water obstacle. Even with the lift it was right up to the doors. His jeep kept steaming for quite a while after.
Enjoy!
