Factory Alarm question

HI,

I own a 2007 Grand Cherokee CRD and am only now questioning the alarm system. Does anyone know what sets the alarm off?

I noticed that lifting the door handels or tailgate handle does not set it off. Does it only go off if the door is opened with the alarm armed? What about window smash?

If anyone knows let me know! Manual is useless.

Also note the alarm is armed as I see teh light flashing on dash and have set it off by arming it then getting out from inside.

Shaun

I think Canada's the same as the US market, in which case it's just opening the vehicle. There are no shock or breakage sensors.

I also have the 07 CRD with the factory alarm. In addition to opening a door, opening the rear hatch, or the hood, mine will also go off if a) I attempt to wash it when the alarm is armed or b) if the temperature drops dramatically (here we can go from 75F during the day down to 25F at night). I have heard rumors that it will also trigger if it is seriously bumped or moved, but can't attest to that.
Cheers,

Ummm...so there are sensors? I'm confused.

When armed should the alarm go off if the door handle is lifted?

Mine does not.

I don't have specific data on 'sensors'. I assume that the alarm uses the same door switches that trigger the lights. I also assume that there is a hood switch. I doubt that Chrysler went so far as to install shock or proximity sensors, but there may be something as simple as a mercury switch in there someplace. You would need the FSM to tell for certain.

The alarm does not go off if the door handle is lifted. Only when any door, hatch, or hood is opened.

I just had to have someone break into the truck just a couple of weeks ago. What was strange was that they guy was using a tool to push the unlock button but it was doing nothing. In the end, he lifted the lock cyl on the sill and the second we opened the door, the alarm went off.

I never tested it after the fact, but is it possible that the lock button is de-activated after the truck is locked from the KF?

Cheers,
