Electrical/tail light problems

I have a 2007 Laredo 4x4 (purchased used 6 months ago) with 43,000 miles. Haven't had any problems until recently:

-Battery died and was replaced over the weekend.
-Immediately after battery install, my check engine light appeared, but went away a day later.
-That same day, a passerby informed me my passenger side tail lamp was out.
-When I checked it out, I discovered the tail lamp still flashes when I remote start and lock the car, but it does not work once the headlights are turned on or the brake is pumped.
-Additionally, a few weeks ago my flashers started flashing at "double time". Started out infrequently, now they do it every time.

I'm not sure how much of all this is related, but I wanted to broadcast out there and see if anyone else had similar problems.
