dulling clear coat bottom rear of rear doors
My friend has an 07 GC limited and it is black in color. The problem is that just in front of the rear wheels on the bottom rear of the rear doors the clear coat is dulling almost to a white. I think it is where things are kicking up from the front wheel. He took it to the dealer and they said it was normal wear. The thing is 23 months old and has 26,xxx miles on it. I guess that was like a year ago when it had 13,xxx miles on it. Anyone seen anything like this or know what to say to the dealer to get them to fix it. I saw it today and it looks terrible. It even has factory splash guards on it.

That doesnt sound normal..Tell your friend to take it to an auto body shop and get their opinion...I have a 2005 Grand cherokee, black also, and I dont have anything like you describe..I also have almost 51,000 miles on it

Me either, and I'm about to hit 60,000. Other than scratches that's I've put on, the paint is perfect.
Is it uniform across the bottom of the vehicle, or is it something that could have been thrown up by the wheels? |

Are you maybe talking about the lower side skirt piece? If so, this isnt painted. It is a black plastic textured finish..If he maybe tried to wax this part, that could be the problem....He would have to remove the wax, then use a product like Back To Black or something similiar...look at it again...

If you're talking about the door itself, polish may be the answer.
I've seen what this sounds like on my silver Jeep—nasty build-up on the bottoms of the front doors below the trim piece, wouldn't go away with washing, wouldn't go away with claying, made the panels rough and nearly white. I assume it was sling of some kind, and hitting it with paint cleaner cleared it right up and revealed the pristine clear below. Hard to say without pics (or being there), though. White clear could always be early stages of clear coat failure, too. Meguiar's Plastic and Vinyl Cleaner would be a better option in that case; it'll actually get rid of the wax residue rather than temporarily darkening the plastic like BTB does.

It is not the plastic part.. it is the painted part. I will try to get a picture to post.

Yeah, that would probably help a bit.
A good cleaning, polishing and wax job might be in order. |

Clouding
Hi All..
MY 06 Grand Cherokee has a similar problem.. Well if it could be called that... Not only do I live on a gravel road but I live in Colorado where they say they are sanding the roads.. But what they really mean is they are dropping crushed granite on them.. What you describe is VERY common out here.. I suspect the same there.. The 08 Overland CRD I am getting will have the clear bra material applied to that area of the rear doors.. Oh Yeah, I also have the factory gravel gaurds.. Ron |

Hi Again..
I fgorgot to add.. The reason it is white is because it's the clear coat that is being abraded.. Ron |
