Diablosport Extreme power puck for CRD?

Hey everyone,

I am new and I am sure this has been answered, but I have been searching and searching and can't find any definitive answers for my question.

I am looking at buying the diablosport extreme power puck for my 2008 WK CRD.

It appears too good to be true for 50 hp and 100 torque for just over $350.

Is this going to tear my transmission apart? OR DESTROY ANYTHING?

I don't tow anything, but do have a heavy foot, and am looking to spice up the drive and gain a little fuel economy without doubling or tripling that price in other parts (intake exhaust). I just hit 100000km so warranty is gone.

Thanks!

If it appears 'to good to be true', is probably is.

If I am not mistaken, the power puck just increases fuel rail pressure to get the gains they call for.
I would go for an ECU HOT tune from GDE (Green diesel engineering) the most common ECU tune here, or there is Custom Spooling, out of the UK or Inmotion Tuneing.
Yes, they all will cost you about double what the puck is worth, but give you so, so, much more in performance. Also, GDE eliminates the swirl motor issue that is common to the CRD.
Search for GDE tune on the forum and lots will come up about it.

Just get GDE , simple , easy and not a gimmick

Thanks guys, I am a firm believer if it is too good to be true it is. And yes, you right about the fuel rail pressure. But even with the GDE tune, is it hard on the tranny?

I asked the same question and was told that they supposedly keep the factory's torque limiting feature so not to send any extra power during shifts. That said, you will be making more power at times other than the shifts so you will be stressing things more than stock. On the flip side, there are a few people here with the tune and no one has had transmission problems as far as I've read.

Thanks all, just looking at the kit on the GDE site, I have never attempted anything like this...do I have to purchase the flash tool as well for $195 or just the $695 kit?

dvella 06-16-2013 11:27 AM

Disregard, I see you can send it in or buy the tool...appears the tool would be nice to have for future codes!

get the tool you'll be glad you did

FYI, With the WK tuning from GDE the flash tool is sold with the tune for $695, no need to order a second tool. We do not have the rental option or ecm mail-in option on the WK, that is only on the Liberty CRD.

Thanks
GDE

Great news! I was saving for $900 thinking I needed to buy the tool on top of the tune. This definitely helps the justification with the wife to get this!

Awesome! Thanks GDE!

Has anyone actually tried the diablosport extreme power puck? GDE could you, as an expert, elaborate on the differences ?

there are lots of threads on tuning boxes for diesels. they seem more prevalent in the uk, from what i have read.

have a google on tuning boxes for diesels and read some forums. they do work. people use them in everything from small 1.9tds to porsche cayennes etc.

(just dont buy an ultra cheap ebay job.)

Zlartibartfast 09-22-2013 08:44 AM

I don't feel that a "power box" vs an ECU tune is a fair comparison. The ECU tune addresses the entire system, rather than 1 or 2 engine parameters. You are paying more because you are getting more

james_2k 09-22-2013 09:07 AM

true, the egr and swirl motor delete thing are cool enough.

but performance wise, i doubt you would notice a difference between a properly set up box and a tune. (going on what i have read)
