In-Dash Aux Input

Hey guys. Just thought I'd share where I ended up putting my hard-wired aux input. I took a few pics during the process, so I guess this is kind of a write up...but it is for advanced readers because I'm not detailing the small things like how to remove the radio, etc :)

I think it turned out pretty well.

This is the jack I chose. A DYI unit from the Shack. 3 conductor (for stereo).

Took the "bar" that is full of buttons out of the main panel, removed the back, drilled a hole and mounted the jack.

Got a RCA patch cable, cut off one end and soldered it to the jack. Drilled a hole on the back of the "bar" and ran the cable out.

Installed a PIE chry04 aux input adapter that I bought at my local Car Toys. This part was super easy. It just plugs up to the factory radio harness.

Here is a close up of the jack:

My camera phone sucks, but you get the idea. :cheers2:

Wow that looks awsome... How much did all this cost?
Did you have to splice any wires or anything

Lt_JWS 02-13-2011 07:14 PM

Nice work! Makes me want to do this to mine!

Thespaniardfhs 02-13-2011 07:16 PM

Looks nice! 05 WK? I might try to do the same thing.

That's great! Did you have to take over the SAT input?

Devilsmed98 02-13-2011 07:46 PM

Wow dude that looks real nice. Wish my REC had something like that from factory. I'd definitely do this if I knew more about audio/electrical. Great way to fill up those emply slots on the dash.

Thanks guys. The RCA cable was 3 bucks or so, the 3.5mm jack was 2 bucks, and the PIE aux input adapter was $59 on sale at Car Toys.

No cutting of any factory wires. The PIE unit plugs into the back of the radio where the VES (factory DVD player) would go. That is the input it uses.

That's sweet... Id like some part#'s if you know them

DustinInDFW 02-13-2011 09:15 PM

NP. The solder in jacks are Radio Shack p/n 274-0249 (2 pack)

The PIE aux input adapter is p/n chry04-AUX

RCA cables are pretty generic.

So what does the aux input use? As far as transmitting to the radio cause I have siruis through the factory and don't want to lose it.

Nice write up!

He already said

So it looks like u can't use it if u have a rear DVD player.

I think they have a model that will use the Sat radio input if you have a VES. Check out their site.

Nicely done... probably an obvious question, but would this setup work for an Ipod/phone hookup? I may give it a shot. It's been about 13 years since I tore apart a dashboard to mess with a vehicle's sound system lol.

DustinInDFW 02-14-2011 08:02 PM

You can plug anything into it that you would plug headphones into. ;)
