Does it make sense to put the resistor in before any problems occur with the swirl motor. I'm thinking the vanes could stick in the wrong position?
I have 160,000 with out any issues, right now

It would make sense to the do the mod before you have an issue....for 2 reasons: 1 as you said, you never know what position the plate will stick and 2 it will likely happen at an inconvenient time and will be in limp mode until it is fixed.....

I agree, its the second part worries me most, Im heading to west coast next month mostly work but I want to fit some fun in. I defiantly do not want to have something happen on a trail in the middle of no where when I'm by myself...but at least there is limp mode.

I did the GDE ECO tune...but I have the resistor in the glove box...wonder what would stop me from putting in the resistor with the ECO tune

I don't see way not but might be best to check with GDE first.
I think if I was not so busy at work I'd probably would have done it already, or maybe I'm just lazy....

Get the ECO tune....at the least it is a swirl motor insurance plan....the best is the extra hp/torque, driveability, and fuel economy. For the miles you do it will pay for itself in no time.

On the other hand if you are getting ready to trade it in than I would not do it....by they way if you do trade let me know I may take the AEVs off your hands if the price is right.

I believe you can simply unplug the connector to the swirl valve and all will return to normal except the CEL light will remain on. I recall reading that somewhere last year, can someone confirm?

No that is wrong. If you just unplug it you're jeep will still be in limb mode.

(ask me how I know this)

GDE tune is the best answer.

The other option is Radio shack $.25 resistor and some "cool tape" $10 at an auto parts shop. PLUS a couple spade connectors and wire cutter and wire cripper.

Last thing you want to be doing is installing something like this on the trail at night on some incline while it's raining and your engine is hot.

You're best getting rid of he problem before it happens.

You guys convinced me, I finally went for the GDE Eco tune.
I guess I needed a good excuse to get it.
Of course they are on vacation now, but I was still able to order it.

First, I am new to this sight. I have been reading alot about the 3.0L CRD's here. I just bought a 2007 WK CRD with 34k miles. It was about a 325 mile drive home. As luck would have it, the ETC error indicator lit up and WK went into limp mode, about 150 miles from home. I came here and checked out what I ran accross before. A quick trip to Radioshack for resistors and viola, she's back in action! Thanks guys! More to come! Next up, get that CCV out of the intake.

Welcome to the CRD family. Wow! 34K. Many more happy miles left on that! Check this site for other problem specific to CRDs. Mine has a lot more miles, but I just replaced the turbo actuator and did a brief write up on it. Symptoms include limp mode and code P0299.

I have a FAQ I made to find info quicker than searching through posts: http://conflictedracer.wordpress.com...erokee-diesel/

It is by no mention complete and I've got a lot more info to figure out but most of the biggies are listed there with permission from the users who provided the info.
