CRD Oil Loss.

Just curious to find out if any CRD owners have to top up their oil midway through oil change periods. It seems that I have to top up the oil (about a litre) I don't see any visible leaks anywhere. I wait 30mins after I run it so oil settles before I check. Any other ideas.

well, I've started following my dealer's advice now about oil and the CRD. You only fill up the engine to right between the empty and full marks on the dipstick and then in theory, you should never see the oil level change between oil changes. that is their theory, I'm only 5000km since my last oil change and I've not had to add any oil, the oil stil reads right between the empty and full marks on the dipstick.

now I don't drive it hard, that may have a bearing on oil consumption, I know my car uses no oil until I drive over 120 km/hour on the highway.

Well I only wait about 30 seconds (not minutes) to check my oil level.
No noticeable loss.

What oil do you use? I run the Mobil-1 Europe 0W-40. Syn.

I normally have to top up my oil about 1/2 to 3/4 of a litre mid service interval.
I put it down whatís been blown out the crankcase into the turbo intake,
I have a Provent to stop it going into the turbo intake, it collects into a small bottle which I empty now and again.

TOP TIP, make sure you put the oil filler cap on fully, then double and triple check it after you top up the oil,
it makes one hell of a mess if itís even one little bit loose. I had oil dripping from everywhere after a 10 mile trip...... it's not funny
