CRD oil dipstick

CRD guys....I am getting different readings on my oil dipstick....one side shows oil level between the full and fill mark. The other side shows oil at the fill level.

This was check after sitting all night. Just curious what everyone else is seeing.

I'll check tomorrow AM once it's light out scottr29. I recall talking about this a couple years ago as there seemed to be a weird coating on the dipstick that made it harder to read - almost like an anti-stick plating or coating. Will take some pics too.

I have had this happen on occasions. Don't know why. It also happens on my old 91 XJ. Annoying.

Just checked - oil is at 7.5k miles and changing tomorrow but it looks the same on both sides - had driven for about 5 minutes before checking after it was sitting for only a couple minutes, so probably more oil would come down out of engine if had waited longer . Sorry so blurry - was freezing. I put numbers facing forward - front end of Jeep. I'll check it cold before driving tomorrow AM and see any difference.

Checked mine cold this am... about 30 F, driveway is pefectly flat and it was at about 80%-85% of max and matched both sides.

The dipstick is strange on these.. sometimes I pull it out and it shows nothing! I put it back in and remove it again and get a reading. Had me scared the first time I checked it when I drove it home from the dealer and it showed empty! thought there was something seriously wrong... I think there may be an air pocket that gets created in the base of the dipstick tube when the engine is running. Then once you pull out the dipstick it allows air to exit, then you get a reading. I pull it, clean it, re-insert it then check again to get accurate reading.

Just like holding you finger over the end of a straw. There is a O ring at the top
