This is where I disagree as I have it as 1 to 3 down one side 4 to 6 down the other. If you have a code reader I just connect it first and see what code comes back.

The guy at the Merc dealer said if it is like other Merc Diesel Engines it is Like this

I talked with the Service Manager where I bought my Jeep (I no longer live near there)... He said they actually changed #4 Glow Plug on a 2007 CRD last week.. The Diagram showed it was supposed to be on the front right side of the vehicle (when looking at the engine from the grill)... but the plug was actually on the other side (front left)... they said they traced it by the wiring..

He told me the colour of the wiring for glow plug #4 was black&white... I checked mine and the black and white wire is where #4 is by the diagram...

I wonder (and I am not a tech so I dont even know if this is possible).. If sometimes in factory installation the wires are not put to the 'proper' glow plug as what the service diagram shows. And that is why we have the confusion over the glow plug placement order?? Is that even possible?

So I changed it today.... Glow plug 4 was (looking from grill towards engine) was the front right plug..

I checked it with the multimeter to confirm

The check engine light on my CRD came on last week and the code turned out to be P0672, which is for glow plug #2. Looks like it needs to be changed. Does anyone know what the tightening torque is? Should anti-seize compound be used on the threads? Thanks.

I got a P0673 code today and it is glow plug #3. Any special tool needed? 73,000 and this is the first code I have ever gotten. Should all 6 be replaced at the same time?

I recall seeing a glow plug tool on ebay, but I also read posts from folks that just used a socket.

When I lost glow plug #2 at 35,000 miles, I asked the dealer if all should be replaced, especially as my warranty was ending. He said there was no reason to replace them until they failed and he has seen them fail as early as 20,000 miles and as late as 100,000.

I am thinking of going ahead and buying a spare as I am sure others will fail over time. Then I would be able to replace it right away.
