Commander Mileage

Momma thinks its time to ditch her 1997 ZJ 4.0. Dad is only concerned about mileage and price, cause he's lame. What kind of mileage are you getting and what motor? I'm convinced that the 4.7 will get better mileage than the 3.7. He has the 3.7 in his Dakota and its a TURD.

I had a 3.7 Commander, if it had been a 4.7 I'd probably still have it. The best I could do for mileage was 22mpg at between 50-55mph but most of the time it was more like 18-19 at that speed. The problem was pushin it on the highway, anywhere from 14-17mpg at 70-80 mph but mostly 16.5 mpg at 75mph. I also own a 99 WJ with a 4.7 which gets about 1 mpg better than the Commander did. I traded in the Commander for a diesel WK, up here diesel is $3.06 and $3.55 for gas per U.S. gallon.

...

07 Commander Limited 5.7 4x4 12mpg city and 16 highway. The truck averages 13.5 with 50/50 driving commute. My friends 2wd gets about 15.5 average and 18 highway....of course these are sub 70mph highway speeds. My 4x4 gets a solid 15.2 between 70 and 80.

I'm going to look at an 06 4x4 Limited with the Hemi tonight. Any first year issues I should know about?

See that all the repairs/recalls have been done. Run the serial number for
XK owners at jeep.com

http://xkjeeps.com/ can give you a lot of info on the XK including TSB's
