Charles Hemi from Hell Build Thread

Ok so I woke up today in one of my 2 non-procrastinating days I get per year, so I better get my build thread going.

It all started in August last year when I got my baby from a local lot. When I test drove her she stalled twice and went into limp-home mode once. This alone should've been a clear "stay away from it" indication but it had already been love at first sight. I was able to knock $800 from the asking price for this issue alone which I had previously learned was a simple fix though.

'05 Inferno Red Limited, 5.7 QDII with 30K miles on the clock.

First work I did on it was the replacement of the input and output speed sensors on the transmission to correct the bucking when switching from [P] to [D] and back and the limp mode every now and then. Unfortunately I have no pictures of this.

Next was oil and filters change. I knew for a fact that the previous owner had put the wrong (15 W40) grade oil in my baby in the last service so it couldn't wait any longer. One week later, all 16 spark plug change for copper champions. This definitely improved mileage and stalling was corrected in 90%.

Finally when she was running smooth and at least didn't sound and feel like an '89 V8 Ford, it was time for her first REAL mod. OME HD Lift. Props go to Kolak for the timely delivery in a tight time frame. Long story short, he was able to coordinate a delivery of 5 separate packages during a 4 day visit to San Antonio. You're the man, Nick!

First pic is stock height.

Finished install, took some comparison pics next to a stock FJ Cruiser and a stock 08-10 WK. Sorry for the low quality pics... :(

Can you re-explain image 7a again, lol. I might have missed something. But grats on the OME.

LOL!!! Haha, you noticed. It was a lazy a** mock up done in MS Paint of how a certain size of tires would look on the Wk. I have much better skillz than that in PS.

Changed to the originally intended lifted pic. :p

Thanks for the compliment and linking it back to the builds thread! :cheers2:

Since the lift came on, I've done Throttle Body cleaning which I intend to put up pics later on, removed air dam and purchased ProComp wheels. I have them in my cargo area right now since I've been waiting for the tires to arrive for almost a month now...

AJeepZJ 03-17-2011 03:23 PM

Much better, I feared someone would.... go for a head-shot with that previous picture. With this approach, your more likely to get... "not bad... what kind of tires you thinking about getting", or "nice, can't wait to see what it looks like with bigger meats".

at least... thats what I'd probably say, lmao.

elbuencharie 03-17-2011 03:28 PM

Haha! Yeah I know. It was never my intention to put up that pic but your clicks were much faster than mine. LOL!!

Tires will be Firestone Destination M/T's 265/70 17 btw. :2thumbsup:

TB Cleaning

About a month ago I did the Throttle Body cleaning. I honestly believe there's a lot of misinformation and unfounded fear regarding this activity.

Unfortunately I didn't take any before pics (yeah, I suck at documenting my work) but from the after pics you can tell it was job well done! No damaging of the internal parts of the servo, no damaging of the machined faces or coating and no CEL's after test drive.

I plan on doing if not a full tutorial, at least a quick reference walkthrough with pics on a separate thread. Stay tuned.

:cheers2:

Ok, so I tracked down these second hand tires... I was looking for 265/70's and these are 285/70 but the opportunity is too good to miss. They have barely 2K miles on them and the price goes for around $600 for all 4. They are in mint condition and don't seem to have been taken off road that much.

What do you guise think? Can I pull these off with my lift and 4.75 Backspaced wheels? I'm taking for granted that I'll have to do the PW mod and custom bumpstops but is there anything else I should consider? Omelet, I think u have the most similar setup. Any concerns I should be aware of or suggestions?

cherrybomb05 03-24-2011 03:03 PM

Yeah, im pretty sure you'd have to do the pw. Looks nice man! interested to see where this goes.
