CB radio and Antenna for my WK
Hello guys.
I need some help picking up the right CB radio. Been looking online for a while and found several good ones. Any brand name you guys recommend ? I've never owned or thought I needed one untill today, after getting lost away from the group in the middle of no where really sucked ! But anyways, besides that, what would be a good place to mount the Antenna on the WK...assuming i dont wanna drill or put holes in my bummper ? Thanks inadvance.

I got my a cobra night-watch, alone with a 5k wilson antenna with a magnetic mount, that way I didn't have to drill the body of my XK.

Get a wilson mag mount ant ...if you don;t want holes. Otherwise put the antenna on the roof...if you don't care.
Don;t mount the antenna where the base of the antenna is below the roofline. this reduces the range drastically. As for Radio's......Cobras, uniden and Galaxy are nice. the nicer ones aren't small. a Older Cobra 19 will work well, and you can even have it tweaked a bit to get more ooomph from your radio. If you don;t mind being illegal, you can also invest in a linear amp.

Remember also.... that if you mount the antenna at the rear of the roof, your strongest signal will be everything infront of the vehicle. At the center of the rof will give the best OMni direction signal, and to the front of the roof will make the signal strongest to the rear of the vehicle. This applies for both Recieving and transmittig.
If you run Dual whips... like semis. their "ears" (the antennas) listen best forward and aft..... the will HArdly pick up any signal from the side...... Dual antennas make a vehicle VERY directional. Good grounds Help. and if you want advise on what to "turn up" inside the radio... tell them to adjust the modulation...... Screw the wattage.... Need more watts, get an Amp.

I was looking at installing a 3' Firestik Firefly antenna on a hood channel mount so I could use the bolts holding on the fender - no drilling required.
Make sure you include a spring if you mount it (e.g. not a mag mount) so you don't mangle something if it snags. JW

I installed mine on the root rail and then grounded the antenna to the roof. Works really well, although the jeep is really tall when I have the antenna up. lol
