A/C Compressor turns on with Fan

Does anyone else have the problem where if you turn on the fan, the A/C compressor turns on even without the A/C button turned on? I'm tempted to just pull the A/C Compressor clutch relay to prevent it from coming on because I don't like the increased fuel consumption with it on.
I've tried hitting the A/C button before/after turning on the fan to see if it would turn off but it didn't do anything.

Normal operation. The AC will turn on automatically in most mode selections nowdays to dehumidify the cabin air even with the temp control on full hot.

Do you have it on defrost or any blend position with defrost?

I don't think mine runs anywhere but defrost with the AC button DEselected.

I've installed switches to kill the AC compressor on vehicles before. Most notable was a 97 Ranger with the 2.3 powerhouse...I needed air out the defrost vents often, but I also wanted to be able to get moving before I turned gray.

The switch sounds like a good idea. I never use my A/C since our weather doesn't really get that hot or humid.

Thanks for the help.

Have you tried this:

- turn the fan on
- turn AC on then off
- turn fan off
- turn fan on

It seems to have worked for me although I am not 100% sure....
