Bilstein 5100 series strut

Im not sure if this is new or not but I just ran across it

Part Number: 24-225793

Series: 5100 Series (Ride Height Adjustable)

Provides 5.85" of travel

That is correct and it's great news! These _just_ came out a few days ago. There's also a companion 5100 series shocks for the rear.

That's cool! I wonder if they are based off the prototype set Russ was working on some years back? I do need new struts when I get home. Now do I get these or build some coilovers, decisions decisions!

AWESOME!!!

These adjustable 5100 series have been VERY popular in the fullsize truck world. I was hoping they would come out with these before I pulled the trigger on the superlift. MUCH easier than cutting coils to run some extra lift!

Can someone explain the ride height adjustable feature of these struts? Can these be used with stock springs to give up to 2" of lift. I apologize in advance if this seems like a dumb question.

Yes, they're meant to be used with stock springs.

The lower spring perch is adjustable, 3 positions to be exact. The lift is achieved by moving the spring perch "up", decreasing the coil pocket which adds pre-load to the spring.

This unit can be setup to add lift in the front for up to 2-inches of leveling. This is done by relocating the spring perch. Bilstein 5100 series offroad Racing Shock.
5100's are specifically engineered for offroad and lifted vehicles.
14mm Hardened Chromed piston rod
One piece alloy rod guide & seal system
46mm piston with self-adjusting digressive valving
One piece seamless monotube shock body
Patented nitrogen chamber and floating dividing piston
360psi gas pressure
Depending on the vehicle chassis and race set-up, some modifications may be needed to adapt these to your suspension. See your offroad mechanic or lift kit manufacturer for specs.

I wonder how well these would work with my modified OME coils? Adjusted all the way down they still provide a 3/4" lift.

Does anyone know what the extended length is on the OME struts?

When I measured it side-by-side the stock strut, the OME was 5/16 (~.3") longer fully extended.

I'm not sure exactly what reference point they use to measure the fully extended/compressed lengths, but if they use the top of the fork bracket on the strut to the seat of the strut mount, I measured right around 19-19.25" on the OME (it was hard to get an exact figure)

Pardon my ignorance, but say you ran these stock with the perch extended to the 2" mark to provide some lift to your stock suspension - wouldnt running it like that with no coil spring or spacer supporting that 2" extension cause premature wear/possible damage?

Premature wear to what? In terms of front end suspension components, its no different than running OME springs and better than running 2" spacers (the spacers over-extend the front end at full droop).

The only downside I see is adding preload to stock springs for the lift which will cause them to wear quicker (as with any spring). The benefit however is maintaining the stock spring rate for those who prefer a closer to stock ride quality. You could also add a 1/4" strut spacer take some pre-load off the spring... or to get a little over 2" lift.
