Better then nothing

Wife took her Jeep to the dealer today because I found the front diff bushing is shot. They said they're gonna replace the rack under warranty ( reg $1400 repair) cause that's where they say the clunk is from. The diff bushing isn't covered under the warranty. They wanted $600 to do the front diff bushing. Lol. I just ordered all three mounts online for $175. I'll have this done in 4hrs tops. All. Oem Mopar parts. They wanna put a brand new rack in for my $100 deductible, go for it! Take advantage of any warranty you guys have!!

There is a great write-up in here on swapping the front diff bushings. I'm on android otherwise I'd post a link but it is also in the diy stickies IIRC.

Brand new rack plus labor for 100 bones = Bonus!

Thanks for the link. I have read that thread before. I'll be doing it on my back in the driveway and I'm hoping to have it go well. I've got all the tools, just wish I had a lift.

Update: They installed a new rack and outer tie rod ends. Aligned it all for $100. Warranty is good to have. I'm gonna see how much stuff I can get them to replace before it runs out.
This weekend I attack the diff bushings and fluid change for the frt diff and tcase. Next week I'll do the rear diff fluid.

Changing the front diff. bushings is not a picnic. Hope you have an air chisel and a good assortment to tools.

Oh yeah. Air tools, air chisel, sawzall, ball joint press and a roll around full of tools. Just wish I had a lift or a pit to work under the jeep.

Sounds like you got all you need for it! The lift would help but it can be done without, good luck!

Ok. The bushings ARE a PIA. The bolt on the pinion bushing is stupid to get to. It took me about 3hrs to do it by myself but can do it faster now I know the way. Also with the OME lift the diff won't drop down enough to clear the passenger side mount. I had to jack up the a arm to get the axle angled right. It took about 5 seconds with the air chisel to remove the bushing. That was the easiest part of the job! I replaced the pinion bushing and front mount/ bushing. The passenger sir mount was perfect yet.
The second hard part was getting the stupid fill plug outta the front diff cover. I had to make a 9/16" Allen socket and use a breaker bar to get it out! Friggin kids at the dealer and their impact guns set for strip/ melt the bolts in!!!! 1 1/2hrs to change diff and transfer case fluid!!! Unreal!!!
Anyway, it's done and the clunks and creaks are gone! It's beer o'clock!!!!

Can this be done without air tools?

I also need to replace these bushings but I don't have access to air tools is it possiable to get the top bushing out without a air chisel?
