Beach driving in a WK....weird sound.
New poster, thanks for reading.
I was recently in the Outer Banks for a week in the 4x4 area. (14 miles of beach with houses but no roads, just sand). While driving I heard the normal scraping and such on the bottom especially when I was in a deep rut but there was also another sound. It would come from the front driver wheel area and sounded like the ESP kicking in. It was almost a revving sound but very high pitched. It would kick in once ever few seconds or so when I would hit a deep patch so I knew it had to do with the traction control. I decided to turn the ESP off to see if that would alleviate the problem. What happened instead is that the off light would go away every time the it made the noise meaning the "ESP Off" option was being overrided in my opinion. Basically, is this a normal sound or something I should be concerned about? Thanks a lot.

The limited slip feature of BTCS never gets turned off, so that's probably what you're hearing.
Depending on whether you were in partial off (press the button) or full off (press and hold the button for 5 seconds), you could have been activating other features too, but it just sounds like the limited slip.

Thanks for the response....and thanks for the tid bit about "full off." I was unaware.
Just worried on my next routine maintenance they are going to say "Your _____ is completely shot! Didn't you hear the noise?" |
