All dash functions shut off with engine running

I drove down the street today and as I pulled into a parking lot all my dash functions(ac,radio, all lights, and gauges) shut off for about 3 seconds while the engine was running. It hasn't done it again all day. My battery and charging system test ok. I have a 05 WK with the 5.7L. I thought I remembered reading this happening to someone else but I searched and could not find any posts.

Anyone ever have this issue?

Sounds like the ignition switch/module right behind the key cylinder has joined the ranks of the soon-to-be-dead ! A Search for "ignition switch" will bring up the DIY procedure if interested.

Just make sure your battery isn't also on its last legs and low on volts which can mimic the ignition switch failure. The heater fan should also quit if it is the ign. switch.

If heater fan dies than it is definitely the ign. switch and not the multifunction left stalk. You want the new ign. switch..$50 or so, some cheaper if you look, not the ignition switch holder with key/cylinder ($180). The above link gives a look at how to get at it a bit... Download the Jeep PDF Manual for free to see the instructions better..Section 8I-page 36. Good luck.

Will be a lot easier than swapping out the HVAC distribution unit on my WK that I just did a few months ago. Talk about tearing the whole dash apart!

This problem finally reared it's ugly head again this week. I went to the Jeep dealer and bought the ignition switch. Not the keyhole and tumblers but the electric switch as described in the link above. It was a 15 minute swap out. So far so good, but we will see if the problem presents itself again.
