816jared build thread

Figured it was time...

This is my first Jeep, and can definitely say I'm hooked. Have had my WK since Feb '13 and absolutely love it, not sure that there is another vehicle I'd rather be driving right now. Maybe an SRT8, but that doesn't really count?

Before I bought the Jeep I drove a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo. Had some awesome parents that were nice enough to start me off with a pretty quality vehicle. It had ~55k on it when they got it for me. Fast forward 11+ years and ~140k miles and it was a far cry from a quality vehicle, I was ready for something a bit nicer.

I started looking around and pricing things Nov '12 and got more serious about things start of '13. Didn't take me too long to find the happy middle ground as far as price and features that I was looking for. There is still a tiny part of me that wishes I would have waited a little longer for something with a HEMI. But hey, you live and you learn!

Also a big thanks to everybody! I appreciate all the advice/input from people much more knowledgeable than myself. With that being said, I know I'm very excited and can't wait for all future mods I have on the to-do list that will be made much easier with the help of this community.

the rig got some much needed maintenance done today. new plugs and changed fluid in front/rear diff and transfer cases. also replaced the rear diff cover. pretty positive that's the first time plugs and fluids have been done to my rig.

old rear diff cover:

what causes them to leak like that? When out driving around I've noticed most WK's around here have a similar looking rear diff.

new rear diff cover:

^^^ My guess is the crazy weather we have doesn't help. HOT summers, snowy winters, salt, sand, ice melt, etc. - wears on the factory rtv seal. Plus that factory plug isn't exactly water tight.

Not to mention - most people never service their differentials. So you have 70-100K+ mile oil that eventually finds a way to weep out.

I think the Solid diff cover looks awesome on a WK!

Looking good! What do you have planned next? Do you recall how much fluid you put back in the rear axle with the new cover?

Wow, looks great! I'm not normally a fan of anything painted black but that white looks pretty good that way! I see you live in KC. We just moved away from Weston, Mo to Eagle, Co last year. I sure miss the BBQ. That's about it though. Lol. Bring that thing out here and we will run some trails with it.

Thank you! I think the black cleans things up very nicely. I did the piece of chrome trim this afternoon, very happy with the way that turned out.

That'd be fun, but will have to wait until next spring. Fall/Winter are my busy times at work so not nearly as much time to play. Hopefully by then the rig will be "trail ready"! lol

thanks guys!

I have the grille insert and front recovery shackles from Aspen Offroad. Going to plastidip the grille when installing the mesh insert, pretty excited for how that's going to turn out.

finally had a little bit of time this afternoon. was going to do install the AFE Stage-2 PRO DRY S CAI + Flying Ryan ported/bored TB. I only had some multi tool torx bit type thing and it felt like it was going to snap apart when I went to take apart the TB. Decided it was probably best to save that Home Depot trip and the TB install for another day.

look at how filthy the old TB is.

new one that needs to go in ASAP, hopefully this weekend.

was able to get the CAI installed with no issue. sounds like there is a damn vacuum cleaner under the hood now!
