42RE hard shifting

04 WJ 4" 32s. Brand new fluid, filter, and some high mileage tranny additive. Shifts as perfect as a 220k tranny will shift under load. But when I'm city driving and I am hitting the gas and it's getting ready to shift if I let off the gas it slams into 2nd and 3rd gear pretty hard. Messed with the kickdown cable and that doesn't change much. Any possibilities like governer or anything? May just be reaching the end of its life. Had a good amount of metal shavings on the magnet when I dropped the pan
