255/75/17's on 17x8 1/2 ???

Any one running this set up? Is the tire wide enough to run on this rim?I'm thinking about getting a set of wheels for my XK on this size, but I think I might have to change the tires too... What do you guys think?

Just did a search on that user name, but didn't come up, hopefully he sees this tread and post his comments and pictures, I'm wondering if I can run this set up and how it looks...

I am running 255/75/17 on 17x8.5 rims.

From what I have seen that's about the narrowest width tire that can be run on an 8.5" width rim.

Could I ask you for pictures from the side and the front? Thanks.

Cool, I got the whole package from Discount Tire Direct with TPMS for 1150. (I told them I had a 08 JK)

I almost bought 17 x 9" wheels, but I was checking the width recomendations on the Goodyear site. GY said a max width of 8.5" with with the 255/75/17 tires.

How do you like the tires so far? I have only had mine for about 2 weeks. I am really curious to see how they do in the snow with the QDII. I am not sure how they will do in mud, but most of the wheeling I have done has been in the summer.

That is a good price! But I got you beat, I found my set on craiglist, with Rubicon wheels, and the TMPS for $500, even almost a year later, I can't believe it...

After looking at your pics, it almost looks as if the tire need to be wider.

I'm very happy with the wranglers silent armors, had them for over a year now, been on mud with no problem at all, they did great on the snow last winter, and according to the news, I might get to test them good again this year, as they are predicting the worse winter in the last 10 years... But unless I just end up going for an even more aggressive look tire, I thing I would go for them again...

I have been thinking about the AEV wheels for a while, but I think that I might have to replace the tires too. But at the same time, I have been thinking about the 4" lift, I'm just having a hard time dumping $5k into the XK, but I think that it would look good is I go for it...

I was orginally planning on the 4" SL. I am out of work right now, so I went with the 3.5 Rock Krawler. Which ended up being about 2.75" in the front and 2" in the rear. I am happy with it. Sense I needed new tires the whole package was only 200 - 300 more than buying the same tire in the stock size. (how I sold my wife on the idea...)

I think going with the OME lift might be the best option. I have been thinking about how the OME lift might stack with the RK lift. (I know its not recommended)

I do have the OME and I'm very happy with it, on, and off road, now, staking up lifts is gonna bring you a whole lot of other problems... There a few treads around here, you can search the treads by acidcold.

I guess that I just want to do something to the XK, because it's been the same for a while... he he...

so when buying new wheels... does the TPMS need to switched to the new wheels or do you need to buy new sensors?
