Are you lifting at all? Might as well just do it the proper way and pick up some spidertraxx.

You will need to do Pinchweld. Very easy to do though.

im determined to clear the bolt... what about 255/70/17 general grabber at2.... that's a 31.1" tire... or will I still need the spacer for the jk wheels?

I'm dying to find a way around the spacers... any help would be appreciated...

The spacer is needed for the rim to clear the brake caliper. Tire size is irrelevant in this case. If you want to avoid spacers, you might have to pick a different rim

Commander rims have the same offset as the jk 17's, and clear the bolt and caliper. 1/4" spacers are usually only around $10 a set.

I'm pretty sure the XK's are the same as WK's. the Moab wheel wouldn't clear my caliper. It's the Sahara wheel that has a different offset. It does clear the caliper

so I just ordered my 265/70/17 general grabber at2's.... I have decided to go ahead and pick up the moabs but probably won't have them mounted right away... I'll stick with stock for now until I can decide about spacers...

so 2" RC lift with 265/70/17 general grabber at2's stock wheels... am I good?

Most XK wheels are 43.8mm offset and most WK wheels are 50.8mm.

Just to nail this down for you. But remember I dont see every type of wheel as they are not all released down here in Australia, but this covers its pretty well.

Factory wheel for WK
  • has a 50.8mm offset
  • a 265/70 will not fit without hitting the bolt
  • A 1/4" (6mm)spacer will allow this to clear the bolt.
  • You can cut the bolt and it will clear but removing the upper BJ and reinstalling can become troublesome, and tyre will rub the swaybar. I dont recommend cutting the bolt but thats only my opinion.
  • Pinch weld mod not required

Factory wheel for XK
  • has a 43.8mm offset
  • a 265/70 will fit without hitting the bolt
  • Pinch weld mod not required

Factory JK 17" wheel (Moab)
  • has a 43.8mm offset
  • will contact the front calipers (wont fit)
  • A 1/4" (6mm) spacer will allow this wheel to fit with a 265/70 and not hit the bolt.
  • A bolt on spacer will also work.
  • Pinch weld mod not required (unless bolt on spacer used)

Aftermarket Wheel
  • Usually a +25mm or less offset (+15mm, +10mm, 0, -10mm though these are usually called JK wheels, same stud pattern)
  • Any offset from +40mm to -10mm will clear the bolt, and sit the tyre further out of the body.
  • Will clear the Caliper
  • Will clear the bolt with a 265/70
  • Pinch Weld mod required.

Bolt on Wheel Spacer
  • Usually 1, 1.25 or 1.5"
  • All factory wheels with 265/70 will clear the bolt and caliper
  • Buy the hub centric better quality brands (eg Spidertrax etc)
  • Torque them to the specs and check regulary
  • Pinch weld mod required

Dave

Hey Valpacer, seems like you are a knowledgeable person to ask regarding wheels. Are there two different types of JK take off's? It seems from reading different threads and builds that some JK take off's have a powder coat finish look to them and a pair that I recently picked up have more of a brushed looked to them. Just curious if I ended up with Moab's or a regular set of take off's (heavier than Moab's), or if they are all Moab's, just different finishes.

Thanks in advance. I've attached an image of the wheels I recently picked up. Not the best pic, wheels are at home, I'm at the office.
