2009 Grand Cherokee Oil Consumption

I have a 2009 GC Limited with the 4.7 that has developed a oil usage issue. There is no leaks, no startup smoke. It uses 3-4 quarts between a 5k change. What I have noticed, that when driving for a long steady speed, it develops a hesitation/cough when you attempt to accelerate quickly. It will smoke lots during this event and lots of what appears to be oil smoke from the exhaust. If you stop for fuel, etc and then attempt to quickly accelerate to get back on the highway, it does the same. It will "clear" itself after 5-10 second and accelerate normally. This only occurs after a long period of highway speed, it does not occur after short trips (4-6 miles). Possibly the oil separator or PCV?
