2008 WK on Warranty, thinking of lift kit... opinions?

Okay, so I was sitting there looking at my new jeep, thinking "I need to lift it..."

Went back to check the warranty paperwork, and it essentially says that if anything breaks as a result of a aftermarket additions (only a powertrain + seals warranty), than it won't be covered.

It also says to get full authorization.

So I am wondering 2 things.

1. Should I ask them whether or not a lift kit would void my warranty?

2. Should I ask them whether or not the MOPAR lift kit would be allowed? As MOPAR sells the 4" SuperLift kit, albeit with like, a $400 price premium, might be able to get them to price match though.

Wondering what you guys think?

I don't want to add the lift kit, have something unrelated go wrong, and then have the warranty company say "Well, you added this lift kit, you didn't ask us about it, and blah blah blah, we ain't paying for it!"

Not even Chrysler will cover you with the Mopar-branded SuperLift (as is true of almost everything in the Performance catalog), so the odds a third-party contract will allow it are pretty close to nil.

But YMMV in Canada; I'm only familiar with policies and laws in the States.

Shouldn't be any issue asking them about installing a lift kit though. They may have an amount of lift they consider acceptable, and you won't know without asking.

They can't blanket void your warranty, at least not in the US. If you lift it and then have an electrical issue unrelated, they can't void coverage. It gets gray when you lift it and put larger tires on it and then have tranny trouble. Did the extra stress cause the problem...? You may have an issue. Talk to your dealer. That is what I've done. I've had dealers that were also Jeep enthusiasts and embraced mods and didn't try and stick it to you... Good luck!

On the OEM warranty(free warranty with brand new vehicle purchase only),aftermarket warranties they can blanket void them for any mods. The ones that do will state that in the paperwork and I have yet to see a aftermarket warranty that does not completely void the entire warranty if lifting.

If you get a Chrysler extended warranty some mods are covered if its a mopar product and installed by dealer.

I'm having the same issue now. I got an extended warranty when I bought my used '09 three weeks ago. I've been considering swapping out the 18-inch Summit wheels for a set of five JK wheels. It's difficult to find decent tires to fit the 18-inch rims, the 17-inch moabs will give me much more variety. At this time I'm not looking to lift my Jeep, just add some tires with better tread. I was wondering if adding the spacers and JK moabs would void any part of my blanket warranty? Probably best to get in touch with a dealership.
