Yes I had them looked at by 2 Jeep different dealerships. I brought it in Tuesday morning and it shut off on them twice and today 3 times. Even though they had the Jeep plugged into the computers it did not send or store any codes. They are going to replace the crankshaft sensor and see if that works. Doubt it buy fingers crossed.

Wow, another '08 Jeep that stalls! I have an '08 Overland with HEMI. It stalls all the time, has had a laundry list of parts replaced, including throttle body, PCM, front control module or wireless control module, coil packs, plugs, sensors, etc. Finally, it has gotten so bad it cannot be driven at all. The dealership called STARR and they diagnosed it as a bad TIPM (totally integrated power module). Problem is that the part is not easily found and on a national backorder. The Jeep has been inoperable at the dealer since august 22,2013. Best of luck. I think i am going to trade this POS after i get it back.

This is EXACTLY how it starts...beware it will get considerably worse with time/heat/weather. Mine was fine for 2 months and a 1000 mile road trip. Then it stalled on the way to work and has not run since. (2008 Overland, HEMI)

mrasnk & jayh231:

Build dates on your '08 WK HEMI's? I'm guessing it is August 2007 or earlier. [Can be read on the applique in the driver's door panel.]

The basis for my question is that the engine/xmission wiring harness might be from the same supplier as the 2007 model year wiring harness. The 2007 HEMI's had stalling issues too (as documented in charlesrshell's 2007 HEMI stalling thread).

Hey Walt, mine was a late build date in 2008 actually...I do not have the exact date handy, but I want to say April 2008. I know for certain it is 2008 though.

If I bring my Jeep to the dealership for this stalling recall, it is a re-flash. Will this remove my GDE tune, and I will have to re-upload it?

build date is 3/14/2008 for my 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. The TIPM arrived today...we will see if it fixes this issue.

Wow! First time I've heard of a late 2008 model year build date stalling consistently. Previous reports have been earlier than mine (The Silver Ghost was SEPT 2007).

That being the case, there are only 3 easy things to verify that I can think of:
  1. Spark plugs have the dark center top electrode cap (not silver) for Champion 570's or MOPAR OEM. Gap is 0.043".
  2. Check the slack in the wire that leads from the harness to the crankshaft position sensor. Lower RHS by engine/xmission joint. Some earlier '07 model year HEMI's have been relatively tight and may momentarily disconnect as the engine rocks on its mounts. [Mine has enough slack to absorb this movement.]
  3. Check every ground you can easily locate. Tight attachment (screw or plug) and no corrosion. A tiny dab of dielectric grease on the conductor pin is good if you have it apart anyway.]

After that, it becomes a PITA by an elimination process. I'm assuming you have no DTC's present. This list is endless, but consider the wireless ignition module behind the key/FOBIK switch early on.

Yes, it has been having it's stalling "Fits" since last January. Sometimes it will last a whole month with no issues then it will stall 3 times in a day.

The plugs were replaced 3 months ago, coil packs are new too. They replaced the TIPM yesterday and according to the tech, it didn't stall, just ran like s**t. Then it threw a code for a PCM, so they ordered another one (4th PCM this Jeep has had). I think I am going to trade it in after I get it back!

I will have him check that wire though...

Thanks for the input!

UPDATE: Jeep has a brand new TIPM, Front control Module, PCM, Plugs, Coil Packs, EGR/PCV/CAM/CRANK/MAP and it still stalls! This past Friday, the territory manager for Chrysler came out and took it for a test drive. It stalled in the middle of the road blocking a lane and they almost couldn't get it to restart. At this point, I am more than curius to see what the problem is.

I will keep you all posted when it gets figured out.

So far I've had the FCM, plugs, and coil packs all replaced by the dealer and continue to have the stalling issue. Mine has stalled multiple times with the service advisor and mechanics in it and they cannot figure out the issue. I love the Jeep but feel its time to trade it in for a Silverado.
