That looks like an excellent price and the part number matches up, go for it.

Part came in, and I replaced it. Check engine light went off after a road trip, so all is well. I bought a code reader too, so now diagnostics will be quicker.

As far as sprinterparts, they took over a week to update the status of my order. Goon news ... after they charged my credit card, it shipped out and arrived a few days later. So, great price with them, but expect a delay in shipping.

Thanks for the follow up, glad to hear sprinterparts and the sprinter wiring diagram helped.

Has anyone ordered parts from sprinterparts.com? I see the 3.0L control module for $137. Seems like a great deal.

$132 here and they ship to Canada for $34: http://www.factorymoparparts.com/642-900-28-00.html

Do a Google search with the part number. I found several vendors. Try to find one that ships to Canada or have a US member ship it to you.

I have had this code for a while now, the only way to start on cold days is to plug it in and the keyless start does not work.

I am getting a new Module, from my local Sprinter dealer and installing this weekend.

zedtechus,
Did you had to pay duties on the part when it was delivered by UPS? have heard about UPS brokerage charges that would kill the purpose...can you please update what was the final number?

Hi,

I didn`t pay duties fees and this was the part that I used in installed myself since almost one year without any issues. I currently run with 2 new plugs (BOSH) and 4 original plugs (BERU). Since new module in place no more glow plug issues.

Thanks.

Chysler just told me the part cost through them is $351.90 CAD (the new part number is 68013182-AC, he said the number changed most likely because they dropped the price by $15).

I'm going to buy it through Factory Mopar Parts too.

CDN dealer and OEM supplier rates were higher than the Factory Mopar Parts from USA.

Chrysler 318,00 + Tax = 365.70
MB 302,00 + Tax = 347.30
OEM supplier - $243.24 + Tax = 279.72

I ordered last week at Mopar Parts - MB part number 642-900-28-00 Benz CONTROL UNIT.
Price - 132.30 + Shipping 38.50 = Total USD 170.80
The part is on the way via USPS just crossed in to CDN and customs cleared. (Hope they sent the new version 642-900-58-01). I guess there could be some tax and handling...

USPS takes a bit longer than currier shipments. As of my experience USPS is less expensive than currier shipments to CDN. A lot of VW/AUDI forum members were not happy with the charges billed by Currier companies (DHL/UPS/EMS) once parts arrived.....

Shall post once the part arrives.......

BTW ordered the OEM BERU 4.4V GPsí from Brain @ Roseland Technical Services, St. Andrews, Nova Scotia....The best Jetta TDI parts service you can get in CDN!
Beru part # 001 159 50 01 - $22.86 each plus HST + shipping.

MB genuine part - in a MB box arrived today from Mopar Parts - MB part number 642-900-58-01
ordered on 19th Nov., received today total shipping 14 days - Canada post - paid total CDN $ 16.94 (handling $9.95 + HST $6.99)

Total cost - 132.30 + Shipping 38.50 USD 170.80 + TAX/clearance 16.94 (app.CDN 200!!!!)
Cheers...........

Sorry to bring this up an old post...
What does this part do exactly? I'm new to Diesels and wondering if I can take my Jeep out of state this weekend. I don't foresee any cold weather ahead.

Suggestions?

it's a sub-module for controlling the glow plug function. If I have my info correct, the glow plugs in this engine are active all the time that the power to the engine is on, unlike older diesels where the GP's are only on prior to ignition. If the module fails, you get a CEL and OBD code and some functions (like remote start) will not work. You can still drive it once you get it started. I have 69K miles on my CRD and no issues with the module.

My Suggestion is:

don't worry about it. Everything you need to know (if it happens to you) is included in this thread. If you are concerned you might get out to the boonies and have a failure, you might want to go ahead and order a replacement and carry it with you. You should have at least one spare glow plug in your glove box, BTW....
