2005 stereo replacement question

I have a 2005 with the factory navi system, and I want a way to play my ipod/iphone without using the FM transmitter. so I am considering replacing it with a newer model that has an aux or usb plug. I don't really care if I keep the navigation or not, but my question is which unit could I replace it with, with just a simple plug and play. and would it screw up my u-connect (which goes through my review mirror so I assume it wouldn't effect that)?

There is an iPod integration cable made for the REC nav. Don't have the part number off hand, but shouldn't be hard to find. I see one occasionally in the "parts for sale" section of this forum
