07 WK Ticking

Hi,

After wheeling on the weekend in 4LO everything was fine, but this morning I started it to notice a ticking noise coming from under the vehicle. Perhaps TCase area. This is the same time as "service 4WD" came on and I can't clear it with code reader.

The odd thing is the tick tick tick noise is on when the key is on but engine not, and keeps ticking when running. If I were to guess, it sounds like the 4LO solenoid is constantly trying to move, but I'm not an expert on Tcases.

Any thoughts or experience with this problem? QDrive 2.

Thanks!!!

brntrbbr,

I'm sorry to hear about the noise. Are you still able to shift in an out of 4HI and 4LO? Does the noise change when the shift is made?

Hi, no it won't let me shift into 4Lo, so the noise is pretty constant

brntrbbr,

Noise and difficulty shifting into a desired range can be related to insufficient lubricant, or possibly damaged or worn internal components.

A diagnosis would be beneficial in determining exactly what is responsible.

Try a diff dealer for the recall. I have an 07 and my girlfriend has an 05. We flashed at different dealers. Hers crapped out after the flash, mine didnt. I was back at my dealer a few times and one of the mechanics actually walked out to the lot and flagged me down to tell me there was like 2 more updates to this recall. When we called her dealership back to see if they had the updates, they had no clue about it. We took her 05 to my dealer, they were kind enough to reflash hers free under the recall still, havent had a problem since.

Get underneath it and pull the motor out, its a plug and 4 bolts. I'm not sure of how it interfaces with the transfer case, but if any of the spinny bits look broken, she's probably finished.

I assume your talking about this part that looks like some sort of solenoid? If so, if broken do I just replace this part or are there other components in the transfer case that will have issue? How much did it cost you to repair?

Thats it yeah, make sure the noise is coming from that. Pull it off and see if you can shift the transfer case manually, you might have to get the wheels off the ground if its stuck in a point that it cant shift. If you can shift it by hand, theres a good chance the motor is no good, either theres something wrong with the sensor, or something broke internally. Ive never had it apart personally, but going by how it looks on the rebuild manual, its just a rod that twists, and I assume somehow allows full oil pressure to the pumps to lock the front and rear drive shafts together. I wouldn't change this thing all willy nilly either, if you're still not 100% sure, I would take it to the dealer so they can use their scan tool to pull the codes from the TCM.
that stupid shift motor is like 700 bucks and back ordered from now till hell freezes over.
The fix may be something as stupid simple as pulling the negetive off the battery for a minute to reset the computer/motor.

Corrosion on the shift motor connector. Apparently river crossing does this...

Clean it up, dielectric grease.

I also replaced the shift motor anyway a few weekss after I cleaned it up, for safety sake. was 300 I think from Rock Auto.

Can post dealer StarScan pulled codes later tonight
