05 WK CEL p0700

The problem I am having is with an 05 WK 5.7l. I was driving along just fine when the jeep shifted into 3rd and the CEL came on. The only forward gear is currently working is 3rd. If I let the jeep sit a while it works fine for a few miles then goes back to being stuck in 3rd.

I pulled the code at it was P0700. I did some research and found that this was a Shift Control Module. Did some more research and found that you could clean the contacts and that normally fixed the problem. I did this and no dice.

I ordered a replacement from Amazon for $300 and installed that today. Test driving it seemed to do the trick but the auto-stick function no longer worked. Drove a little further and the "Service electric braking system" message came up. Drove further and the CEL came back on and the jeep is stuck in 3rd gear again. This time the display showed "D" rather than 3rd but otherwise I am back to where I started.

I am going to return the new Shift Control Module but I don't know if I should ask for a refund or get a replacement. It is possible that the new one could be bad since the auto-stick didn't work.

It is also possible that the problem is not the shift control module at all and something unrelated. I need to take the jeep into a dealer for a warranty repair where they re-flash the TCU. I may have them diagnose the problem while they have it but I would like to be as educated as possible when I go in there.

Anyone know anything useful?

My 05 5.7 did something similar at around 140k where it went into limp mode where it was stuck in 3rd gear and showed code p0700. On mine I seem to recall that it was the valve body in the transmission. As it is late my memory may not be 100 percent, but I hope it will give you something else to research. Good luck.

I got the Jeep back from the dealer on Friday. Turns out the transmission solenoid was the problem. Had that replaced along with fluid and filter obviously. Set me back $882, that hurt.

Ouch! Atleast she is up and running again though. Were you able to get a refund from amazon for the part?
