05 Grand... possible purchase

Going to look at an 05 Grand tonight. 95000km (59000 miles) on it with 3.7 v6. Anything to look for? Issues they have, ect? More higjway driving, towing smaller boat, camping, not much trail use. Figure it'll be better than my YJ. Lol
I just need something that doesn't leak every fluid known to man. Lol
Ever since I bought my YJ, I've said: shoud have bought a Cherokee! :d
All opinions welcome.
Thanks for your time.
Mike.

See if it has a hitch. If not you will have to add one $$$$$

Check for good service records.

Drive it with the thought of a boat behind it. That 3.7 is kind of soft on torque so make sure it will handle a boat. The 4.7 v8's get basically the same fuel economy as the v6. The v8 will tow better and handle hills and mountains better with possibly better (debated) resale value.

I'd try to find a V8 if possible, maybe even the diesel. I test drove a v6 that was the same year and was thoroughly unimpressed... just my two pennies...

just to sweeten the pot alittle bit, i love my 3.7 the only bummer is it doesnt have quadra drive, but for what my realistic expectations are for my truck, im overall happy with my purchase.

yes the 8s are very similar with gas milage and all that other happy stuff but your also going to spend a few more $$ on an 8 and for the same reliability as a cheaper 6 and like you said. your looking not for off road, to tow a SMALLER boat and camping. imo unless you want to race hondas with your truck 6 the is a great all around truck

Define smaller boat. 16ft aluminum and 18ft fiberglass are pretty different. Also if you already pull a boat, you don't want to limit yourself from being able to upgrade.

If you're towing on long trips I'd definitely opt for the 4.7l. I find the 3.7 slightly underpowered (but manageable) on the highway just pulling its own weight. However it's harder to find equivalent 4.7s with the 3.7 price tag.

If it does have a hitch don't assume it's got the tow package. Make sure to have them clarify/prove that. The tow package includes more than just the hitch (check wkjeeps.com for exact). I put an OEM class III hitch on mine even though it doesn't have the tow package. The 3.7L's with tow package will come with a class II hitch. I read somewhere that it's hard to find class II drops large enough to tow small trailers if you were to end up lifting it. (With the lift I needed an 8" for a snowmobile trailer I borrowed. 5 3/4" should handle most your boats with normal size trailers.)

2005 WK 3.7L Laredo. RC 2", 265 70 17 Bridgestone Dueler Revo 2's. Class III OEM hitch added. Bilstein Struts. Monroe Load Levelers (58643).

Found an 06 Limited for $1000 more than the 05 laredo, but it has 125,000km rather than 95,000km
Going to test drive the 06 tomorrow night. How reliable are the 4.7's? Has tow pkg I believe since it has a tranny cooler.
hope it goes well.

Why is this question asked at least once a day on this forum? Are the _______ engines, years, systems reliable??

My wk is reliable. But so is my smith and wesson revolver, makita drill and hp computer. Your results may vary.

Sorry for the rant.

No worries. I've read these forums each day for just over 3 yrs, so I understand.
Has a carproof report. No accident, an ontario vehicle, never stolen.
Didn't leak a drop of anything. I just hope it drives well. It has about 78000 mi on the 4.7, so I'm just trying to figure out if that's "high" or not. Lol seems well taken care of, so...
