Awesome forum- joined because it keeps popping up when I do searches for tires and wheels information.
I've been driving my TJ since 2002 with almost no issues. Self maintained, but very little maintenance has been really needed.
5 speed manual 2.5L. Bone stock except for BFG all terrains, which I need to replace pronto, one of the reasons I really started digging around in here. Radio stolen, but who cares- road noise is where it's at!! Have been rolling in a bikini top for about 4 years- never need a full top in TX really, at least not when you grew up on the East Coast.
These days, I mostly drive local pavement, but have lived in ME, CT, DC, CO, IL, and CA, and now TX. Been offroading in every state- nothing too serious, just banging around for fun because it's a Jeep and you should.
In the last year, I was rear-ended by some guy in a huge GMC SUV who was on the phone- destroyed my tailgate and spare tire rack, so I replaced it, but no other issues. His car was totaled. Then, I was hit at an intersection by a girl who blew a stop sign in some kind of tin can Chevy economy car. Pretty significant body damage to front passenger's side, but much to my surprise, relief and pride, I was able to drive away from that one as well. She was not. I think the word is "schadenfrued" or something
I love my Jeep for a lot of reasons. It appears to be bullet proof, it's safer than I thought, and every time I turn the key it starts. )The same can not be said for the remainder of my vehicles.) When I bought my 76 GMC, I had intended to sell the TJ....
but I just can't do it.
Now, I need tires, wheels, and some body work. Looking forward to doing right by the old girl, as she's done right by me for so many miles.
