1986 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 2.5l TBI Auto rwd

1986 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 2.5l TBI rwd auto. 159,6XX miles.

I just picked this up for $500 cash! It was running vary bad. It had sat for over a year. Would barley start and would run on 3 cyl or less. It has Power windows locked and seats! Everything works in the interior. Its fugly red interior but I want to pull the carpet and rubber line it! Came with a alarm and remote for alarm/locks. I picked it up and changed the plugs on the spot. They were so fouled. They were the worst plugs I have ever seen! After that she started right up! It had vary bad gas so I put some 93 in it to help boost the octane and run better. I put some oil in it and drover her home.

There was some oil leaking from under the motor. It was hitting the crank pulley and getting slung all over the engine bay and hood. This had been going on before it was taken off the road, so a lot of oil buildup in the motor and on the suspension. I drained well over a gallon of oil out of it and it was like water... The oil psi was under 20 at warm and at 3000rpm before. Since then I have flushed the oil and replaced it with high mileage oil and a Bosh filter. I used some engine bay cleaner (3 cans) and removed most of the dirt and oil! She is running 10x better! Oil psi is above 40 at idle and go's up as rpms rise. The oil leak seems to stop since I tightened the oil pan bolts a little. Its only been a day so we will see. The motor needs some love. Needs some motor mounts and a real clean. I love sea foam so I will run that through her!

Im thinking about getting a new injector and pulling the throttle body off and giving it a good clean! The idle is 1100 rpm and when I rev it up to about 4k and let off it sometimes stalls. I will replace all vacuum lines and check for leaks. And replace the rotor and cap and test the coil.

If anyone has some tips or idea to help her run better please let me know! This is my first jeep. But I love working on cars I also own a 2005 Evo 8.

Pics!-----The day after I picked her up!---- I will post updated pics after weather clears up!

Thanks
Yes its to much red for me. Im really thinking about taking the carpet out and rubber coating the floor and pulling all the red interior parts out and painting them. But for 500 bux its worth it.

I have to agree, for $500 interior color doesn't matter. An good luck with your project you got there.

Thanks! Its not going to be a offroad beast but im sure it will drive me for a long time. Im planning on saving for a older 4x4 jeep to build up. This will give me time to research and learn more about jeeps. But I am trying to buy a set of Interco super swampers 29" to put on it.
