new to this online forum thing..

what does "bump" mean?
or BTT?
why is a reply made with nothing but a "bump" in it. does it bring it to the top of the list?

BTT means Back To the Top, same as bump. Some folks want a post to be at the top of the index page so that it's more likely to be seen, so they'll just type "bump" or "BTT" and nothing else in a reply, moving that thread up. You'll see this frequently in For Sale forums, although it's generally considered bad form to bump your own thread more than 1-2 times a day.

Peronsally dont think you should bump stuff more than once a day. On top of that, I say one should wait until it's off the first page.
