31s are best with no lift, 33s are asking for trouble, unless of course you are gonna drive in a straight line, then reverse home in a straight line

well i was thinking about getting tires first then a lift.

is it better to get tires and a lift at the same time or get the lift first then the tires

you can get tires first, but i wouldnt put them on, get at all the same time, or start with lift first
i think this pic is just with a "2 BB, i added a "1 BL for the added clearance.

Get the lift first......My Sahara is currently on 33x12.5x15 DC Mud Country's without a lift (ordered the 3" Full Traction lift from 4WD before I had the tires mounted and 2+ weeks later I just heard that it's finally on the way).

I've been driving careful as hell and STILL have rubbed my fender flares a good dozen times.

I'm hoping that UPS drops off the lift tomorrow so I can have it installed before Monday.

Stock with no lift

Flexing a little and lots of rubbing over speedbumps. I installed my 4" superlift the next day and I wouldn't do 33's untill you have the lift installed.

Here's some more pics...

First is post tire, pre lift....I had to drive like that for 3 weeks while I waited for the lift to ship.

Here's how she sits today.

The spots are just a little mud that I picked up Friday at softball...

I'm currently sitting about 37.25" at the fender flare in the rear and 35.5" in the front.....I should be adding a 3/4" spacer in the near future.

Sorry to bring up an old subject, but it's not so old to me If you use flat fender flares like these can you fit a 33 inch tire without a lift on a '99 TJ?

If you cut the fenders and did the Highline fender "lift" you could fit 33's with no actual lift. Search Highline fenders for pics and write-ups for it.

Here you go. Stock with 285/75-16 BFG M/T's on AEV Bridger wheels.

But my lift will be getting installed today. I'm going with a RC 3.25" with the .75" spacers in front only to level things out.

If your still interested,
You could also get some of those arched tube fenders... supposed to be able to clear 35" tires stock...

If I can ever manage to save up enough to get my V8, I'll be going with smittybilt tube fenders, a 1" lift, and 33s. I know that the TNTs let you fit 35s well, so I figure that the smittybilt fenders should have a similar effect.

Anyway, you should definitely get atleast a couple inches of lift, or you're going to run into problems. I know someone running tires on his F250 that are too big (don't remember the size), but he's had all sorts of problems due to them rubbing when he's at like 3/4 turn...
