Soft Top Roof Racks!

Thinking that I want to buy myself a roofrack that works with a soft top, and still allows me to pull it down at whim. Just starting to research the idea now, but if you have one, or know anything about one, please post away. I'd love to see what the fellow soft topers do.

The only other one I know of is called a Dave's Rack. It's made by Olympic.

go to quadratec.com and on the side there is something that says racks, click on that. Kargo master makes some, garvin makes some, smittybilt, and more

All of these racks are great but they still require you to move the rack in someway to put the top down. I am in the process of building mine, it sits about an inch or so out to the side of the top therfore you dont have to move the main bars to put the top down. The crossbars will slide to either the front or back inside of a track so all you have to do is slide the crossbars and whatever load is on it, and put the top up or down..

I have the Kargo Master cage and rack and it works great. To hinge it back to put the top up and down just takes an extra minute or two. It has 3/4 inch bolts it the front that have to come out to hinge it back. I bought a wrench that I carry with me just for that.

This is a Top-Five stainless steel and aluminum. it is a fixed rack but can be made to hinge fairly easily. It is for sale if you are interested.

Here's mine. It's a Kargo Master rack (same as 95-YJ above, but without the full cage), with a converted receiver basket strapped on. Just as he mentioned, it's only two 3/4" bolts up front and I can flip it back about a foot or so, enough to get the soft top up or down--it's a one-man operation and works great. The KC's are wired through the tubing with a quick disconnect near the passenger side mirror.
