I like the lifted ones, there are 3 around town that look real nice. Well one is a KK but same thing really, I always want to meet up and talk to one and ask them why they put so much money into a vehicle with limited off road capability.

Its like building a rock buggy out of a Power Wheels Big Foot. The only one-of-a-kind around here that I truly admire is a black Commander w/3"&31's. The KJ's remind me of a lifted PTCruiser, HA

Those who haven't laughed yet have never watched a KJ fail at trying to keep up with an XJ.

I see the concept being a fairly good idea, but to move the diff up to where it can't get hit, only to expose A-arms that bend. Aside from the suspension, the bigger issue is that the motors in 'em are crap.

They wheel like any other IFS 4x4

I should know, I've spent the last 10 years wheeling in IFS Chevy's and Toyota's

KJ's were designed to appeal to the city-bound wanna-be's. It was all meant to take the wind out of Subarus' sails. What do you suppose there is more of: wrecked KJ's, or broke down KJ's.

It's more of an evolution of the XJ since its still called Cherokee outside of North America. Most of the Cherokee's core buyers weren't buying them for off road use, I will go out on a limb and say very few Jeepers would still buy Cherokees if YJ's and TJ's weren't so expensive. I only bought mine because of price vs ability

Not everybody had the same idea when it came to IFS. Toyota knew what their trucks were going to be expected to do, Chevy too. The KJ was merely to get the soccer moms on the Jeep train.

Thee XJ, haha, was designed to capitalize on all they'd learned. Scramblers were the pick of the litter. Thus the XJ was given the longer wheel base. The trade off was, of course, no frame. This was intended to be a huge improvement for weight and mpg, but ended up being the weak link for hard core off roaders. None of it is evolution, just experimentation. Thus, each suspension configuration has it's own letter designation.

Ultimately, I'd like to aquire an LJ for my monster build. I have a 3.5"/31's on the XJ and I believe, for the sake of longevity, that's as far as it should go. The LJ build will involve a 351 Cleveland, d60's, and 37" boggers.
I agree the XJ has its limits too, but the KJ is the top end of the useless Jeeps. I.e. a KJ is likely to be more capable than a Patriot.

You're right. I was hoping to prompt someone to post a pic of a lifted LJ.
