geez, what happened to jeep. These ideas are so freaking sweet. If some of these things had modern touches, they would be unstoppable

1969 Jeep XJ001

"Kaiser Jeep created XJ001, a styling exercise on the 81-inch-wheelbase CJ-5 Universal chassis. Boasting a sporty and very modern fiberglass body with an open back, door-less sides, and sculptured, car-like contours, it was designed in 1969, just before the AMC takeover."

1969 Jeep XJ002 "Bolide"

"This photo is a 1969 Kaiser Jeep factory shot of the XJ002 "Bolide" concept. The word Bolide means "a large meteor that explodes in the atmosphere," which is maybe appropriate for a flashy concept car that was never produced. It"s also an unusual name for a Jeep, but this was an unusual Jeep. Its plastic roof had bulges for head clearance. Built on a Commando V6 chassis, the off-road sports car was shown at the 1970 NYC Auto Show, and reportedly the XJ002 still survives and is undergoing restoration."

Jeep Thunderchief. It was a prototype built by Jeep in 1987 for a possible "street truck" package for the Comanche.

Destined for Europe

This round-headlight 1997 Cherokee was designed with the European market in mind and was powered by a 2.5L turbodiesel. While plugging the familiar "go-anywhere capability" of all Jeep vehicles, the Casablanca was set to "extend the Jeep spirit into even more exotic, new territories. Jeep Cherokee Casablanca is designed to travel long distances under extreme conditions."

With an exoskeletal roof rack and with built-in driving lights, other accessories included a canvas sunroof that slid back to open up the entire vehicle, quickly converting it into a pseudo-convertible. Other features included a tubular bumper and side steps, an integrated winch, a 2-inch suspension lift to make for 9.5 inches of ground clearance, and 31-inch rubber.

I'm betting the convertible came from the same idea as the Dakota convertible from about the same time.

Jeep Icon, was supposed to be a small size, inexpensive open top off roader with independent suspension providing 17 inches of articulation (very good for a short wheel base small automobile like that). It had a few innovative technologies including an integrated roll cage, 12-speed quick shift transmission, being 6 low gears and 6 high gears. Jeep ended up not using any of the new technologies, but Honda ended up using the quick shift transmission on their F1 cars and some of the chassis and suspension technolgies on the CR-V.

Chrysler Jeep Icon

Sweet looking!

I like the looks of the headlight setup on the Cherokee Casablanca. I am going to attempt to make a new headlight surround based off of that design once the warm weather gets here. I am thinking fiberglass would be a good material.

I would drive that Thinderchief even today! Slap a Hemi in that thing!

If your Jeeps not leaking it's out of fluids.

2005 Jeep Gladiator, aka Jeep TK.

If the morons at Chrysler marketing knew what they were doing they would put this in production.

Imagine this truck with a Hemi, lockers, 12k winch and all that comes on the Power Wagon.

Instead of a wanna-be Rubicon Dodge Ram, you'd have a kick-butt Jeep truck.

The auto show version had a 4 cyclinder turbo-diesel engine.
