I've only been to Wharton State Forest on 206. Don't know the other areas.

And, yes, as far as I know, you just go, but it's best to hook up with other people that have been there. It's 1 million square acres, so it's pretty easy to get lost.

you just go. Google Wharton State Forest, it's off of rt. 206. Stay on the trails though, becuase if you venture off the sides and get caught, it's a hefty fine. Keep an eye on the Northeast thread on this forum. I'll post a thread usually when we're thinking of going to see if anyone else wants to come along. We usually end up meeting in Pic's parking lot (http://www.picalilli.com/history.html) about a half mile from the trail heads and then go.

I'd be careful with that, some areas are restricted, protected or private land... Like previously stated, stay on known legal trails and don't venture into the unknown areas... Rangers are just looking for an excuse to close Wharton, lets not give them a reason!!!

ok, very true. there are alot of trails and alot of them say private. and all that. the rangers down there can be very strict so jus watch where u go but theres still alot of land that you can go through
