thanx for the pictures. I gave been trying to decide if i want to go to the frame or just attach on the body like you did. I would think the frame would be stronger.

How did you make those mounts etc?

mine do go to the frame. i drove a few days w/ them mocked up and frame kickers just pressed to the frame. all they did was knock on my frame no matter where i was driving. i made them so i wouldn't dent another rocker as i did at the 07 jamboree. i couldn't thru bolt them to the frame so i ran light vert beads to tie it into the rails. my kickers are made from 1"x1" square tubeing and a 4"x4"x1/4" plate & there are 3 on each side. a frame kicker is a must! i would have mangled my tub this year if i didn't tie into the frame. i'll try to dig up some pics of the kickers.

not sure what you are talking about a kicker.. pictures would be great.

Mine so far are simple Ill have to take some pictures and post what i have mocked up for now. Still trying to figure it out.

I am using some scrap I have laying around. They are more for steps and a place for me to put my foot when the doors are off.

we dotn have big rocks here in SFL...

here you go,

a kicker or gusset is some type of support you use to add strength or to stiffen something. in this case the body of a jk is weak and crapy peice of sheet metal. it has got to be the worse sheet metal i have ever seen on a jeep! i do wheel this thing and plan on keeping it stock as it's my daily driver. so the arrmor needs to be simple and very effective. here are some other pics of the underside.

the middle mout doesn't have a kicker,

hope this helps.

great pictures. how did you make the brackets and do they secure to a factory bolt?

i was thinking of going straight to the frame but now i see how wrong that would be without the other brackets. back to the drawing board i guess.

ill get some pictures of mine up this weekend.

w/ my jk i had the dumb @$$ side steps. they were off as fast as i could. since i'm a metal fabricator i never toss out anything metal, you just never know when you'll need it. i kept the factory side step mounts and after a good sand blasting to remove the powder coating i started tacking stuff and cutting. i'll post a small photo album w/ the step by step. a yj would be very easy w/ the right tools. a metal break is something you may need. remember you need some distance from the body to "said" rock/tree. so you don't want something tight along the body. the silders that were done a few posts up are great! this way the tree/rock hits far enough away from your tub to keep you and the rest of the jeep safe. but w/ the extra support and protection of the plate steel armoring the rockers it's a unbeatable item.

so here is the mock up of what i am thinking. No they will not be orange but black

i was thinking of leaving them open like this. Its a 3" gap. Or I could put a piece of flat plate on them I guess. Not sure its needed.

Do you think I need the center support? I am going to weld them to the frame I guess. No good way to get a bold on them.

Thoughts??? Ideas etc all comments welcome. remember budget build here..
